Up and Over!!

The Alps can'ts slow the Wacksmans down. up and ovet the pass we went.... 4 hours up, then a freezing cold lumch at the top. 1 hour down to the valley below and another huge hill. just not fair!

Not sure how they can get flowers to bloom when its snowing out, but they can do it in Switzerland! this house was right near the top of the pass and looked like it has been there for hundreds of years

Heli-logging in the Alps. these guys are nuts. everytime they picked up a heavy load the chopper looked like it may crash. it didn't every time the dropped the logs successfully. nerves of steel!

these are some serious mountains, these Alps things

This is one serious bridge. Maybe 300' high over a steep mountain canyon. everything behind the green hills is snow and glaciers. very cool views the whole way up the pass

In 5 miles of 12% grade, we'll be treated to the easy road.... the thing in the picture. getting there really sucked!

Good morning from the locals!!!!

Fanicular leaving the mall and heading to a ski mountain. very convenient

The final skinny road to Zermatt. no cars allowed here in the winter... people take trains and busses to the village

The Matterhorn should be here... but someon switched on the clouds and we couldn't see it. foiled again by the weather!!!

After spending some time in two of the finest ski towns in the world (Chamonix and Zermatt), we offer the follow observation and analogy.... Chamonix is to Alta as Zermatt is to Aspen..... we won't be back to Zermatt for a while, at least until we can afford the 172,000 Francs for the watches we saw!!! unbelievably expensive, and full of tourists who have no right being in the mountains!

Up the valley to Zermatt.... 36 km later we're there. this was a major hillclimb for the day!! we did se two other cyclists. We planned on camping at the top so we hauled all our gear with us.... unfortunately it was cold, cloudy, and windy up there so we came back down. not cool!

To Zermatt

We decided to ride to Zermatt to see the Matterhorn. Started out the ride with an illegal spin through a 3.3 km tunnel! thankfully it had a sidewalk!
